Should you register a design
It really depends on your circumstances.
For example…. if you have not developed your product or service or do have the resources to employ a professional, the question we would ask is - ‘what do you hope to achieve ?’ What’s the point in registering a design when there is no hope or intention to commercialise it.
Likewise, if you have commercially developed your product or service, can employ a professional and have the resources to commercialise its potential, then a Registered Design to protect the feature of your product and brand is incredibly valuable.
Whilst Registered Design is not essential for the sale of products, they are essential if you wish to license, sell your IP rights or need to raise funding. Very few potential licensees, buyers and investors will support a new product or brand without legal protection that prevents others from copying it.
